All flights outside India at TRV leave from Terminal 2

T2 at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport handles every international departure and arrival, while T1 stays domestic. If your ticket shows Emirates, Qatar Airways, Etihad Airways, Air India international, or SriLankan Airlines, you’re in the T2 camp. It’s the newer side of TRV, with upgraded check-in halls and immigration lines that feel noticeably more modern than T1.

Check-in for most widebody flights opens around three hours before departure, and queues build fast for late-night bank waves to Doha and Dubai. Immigration and security sit directly after check-in in a single flow, so once you pass that point you’re fully airside in T2 and cannot get back to the landside food outlets like Moms Kitchen or Le Café. Build at least a 2-hour buffer for evening departures on Qatar Airways or Emirates, especially on weekends.

Food and coffee: pre-flight basics covered

Landside in T2, you’ll see Cafe Coffee Day and Barista near departures, good for a quick cappuccino before you even print your boarding pass. Moms Kitchen and Tiffin sit in the public area too, with South Indian staples like dosa and idli at budget-friendly prices compared to in-flight buy-on-board. Once you’re airside, places like Aromas, Spice Garden, Curry Kitchen, Noodle Bar, Baskin Robbins, and Grab N Go take over, so you can still grab a masala-heavy meal or just ice cream at 23:00 while you wait for an Etihad red-eye.

Spice Garden and Curry Kitchen lean into rice-and-curry plates, with thali-style combinations that run cheaper than eating at a major Gulf hub after you land. Noodle Bar adds basic stir-fries and noodle bowls if you’re already saturated on sambar from time in Kerala. Grab N Go focuses on pre-packed sandwiches and snacks sized for a short hop to Colombo on SriLankan Airlines or a quick connection in Doha, so it’s the spot to raid if you like having your own food on board.

Lounges: several names, similar basics

T2 packs in multiple lounges: The Lounge, Bird Lounge, Kerala Tourism Lounge, CIP Lounge, Government VIP Lounge, Crew Lounge, and the Adani Lounge. Most regular passengers end up in either The Lounge, Bird Lounge, or the Adani Lounge, depending on airline status and card access. Gulf carriers like Qatar Airways and Emirates typically send premium-cabin and oneworld/Emirates elites into contracted lounges here, so your boarding pass usually lists exactly which one to follow once you clear security.

The Lounge and Bird Lounge sit airside, a short walk past duty free, and standard offerings run to hot Indian dishes, basic sandwiches, coffee machines, and soft drinks, with seating that fills up in the 22:00–02:00 wave to Dubai, Doha, and Abu Dhabi. The Kerala Tourism Lounge leans more into regional touches and sometimes serves local snacks alongside tea and coffee. The Adani Lounge carries the airport operator’s branding and can accept various card programs, so check your Visa or MasterCard fine print before paying cash at the door.

Shopping and duty free in T2

Right after security and immigration, T2 opens into a duty free zone with separate shops clearly labeled Liquor, Beauty, Electronics, Watches, Confectionery, Toys, and Smoking Accessories. Adani One Exclusive and Hot Deals often run bundle promos on spirits and perfume, similar to what you’d see in larger Indian hubs like BLR or BOM. If you forgot a cable or power bank, the Electronics outlet usually has last-minute fixes, though prices skew higher than city-centre stores.

For reading material and basic travel supplies, Relay and WHSmith both operate inside T2, stocking English-language magazines, paperbacks, neck pillows, and snacks. Combos-branded sections group sweets and snacks into multi-item packs that work well as quick gifts if you’re heading out on an Air India flight to the Gulf. Confectionery shelves stay open late to catch those midnight departures, so you can still grab chocolates at 01:30 before boarding.

One practical tip for Terminal 2

Taxi and pickup zones for T1 and T2 sit in different areas of the airport grounds, and some first-timers get dropped at the wrong building. When you book a cab to Thiruvananthapuram International Airport, explicitly say “Terminal 2, international side” and double-check your driver’s GPS pin before you set off, especially for tight check-in cutoffs on Emirates, Qatar Airways, or Etihad flights.
