Terminal 1 hosts 4 airlines. It's AirAsia's home turf at SUB. You'll find 19 dining options, 4 lounges, 9 shops here.
Domestic-only Terminal 1 at SUB handles Batik and Lion
Terminal 1 at Surabaya Juanda (SUB) is the domestic side only, split into 1A and 1B, and used by Batik Air, Citilink, Garuda Indonesia, and Lion Air. All international flights go from Terminal 2, so a Jakarta or Bali connection on these carriers keeps you in T1. The building is older than T2 and reviewers on Flyertalk flat-out call it “tiny” with “really nothing to do” outside the gates.
Sub-terminal 1A and 1B departures both sit behind their own security filters, so check your printed gate area before you head in. Walking between 1A and 1B is doable in under 10 minutes, but you may have to re-clear security if you exit the sterile area. Domestic arrivals in T1 feed straight to baggage claim on the lower level, with car pickups outside within a 3–5 minute walk of the belts.
Food in T1 clusters around the departure hall and near some boarding gates, with prices higher than city levels but still normal for an airport. For fast food you get KFC, A & W at unit FB-02-07, Solaria, and Dunkin Donuts. Local-style bites show up at Bakso Lapangan Tembak and Bogajaya (RT-02-06), plus Waroeng Kopi and Java Cafe (FB-01-11) for coffee and snacks. Bakery Station (FB-02-12), Roti O, and the Roti O kiosk are the better bets for quick pastries you can carry onto the plane.
If you just need drinks and packaged snacks, look for Circle K, Indomaret Point, and Alfa Express at RT-01-01 in the landside area. These minimarts usually beat the sit-down cafes on price for water and basic items, and they stock instant noodles, chips, and simple Indonesian snacks. Long layover and low patience? Grab a couple of bottles and some snacks here before heading to your gate, since some gate clusters have slimmer options.
Lounges carry most of the comfort in T1: Concordia Lounge, Citilink Lounge, Batik Air Lounge, and Blue Sky Lounge all operate here on the domestic side. Access rules shift by airline and card, but day-pass pricing tends to land in the modest range compared with Jakarta or Bali. FlyerTalk regulars flatly say they either pay for lounge access in Terminal 1 or leave the airport, because public seating and entertainment options feel thin.
Shopping in T1 tilts heavily to local souvenirs, not high-end brands. You’ll see a Duty Free Shop despite this being domestic only, plus Jawa Timur Souvenir, Toko Oleh Oleh Surabaya, and a generic Souvenir Shop selling Surabaya-branded snacks and gifts. Kapal Api Store focuses on local coffee products, and a small Fashion Boutique handles basic clothing. If you want a quick edible souvenir for family in Jakarta, the souvenir shops near the main concourse usually stay open to around 21:00.
SleepingInAirports reviews mention long benches in the older sections of T1 that make an overnight just about tolerable, but they also flag loud cleaning noise and announcements well past midnight. Comfortable seating is limited, and power outlets are sparse once you leave the cafes and lounges. For a late-night domestic departure after 23:00, charge devices earlier in a cafe and avoid banking on quiet corners near the gates.
Big structural catch: there is no free shuttle between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 at SUB, and travelers report having to pay and budget extra time for the transfer. If you land domestically in T1 on Lion or Citilink and connect internationally from T2, add at least 30–45 minutes to move across, plus whatever your airline suggests as a minimum connection. One simple rule here: check your terminal on the boarding pass before booking tight domestic–international connections through Surabaya.
