Terminal 1

3 airlines 1 restaurant 7 lounges

Terminal T1 hosts 3 airlines. It's Eurowings's home turf at HAM. You'll find 1 dining option, 7 lounges here.

30 Eurowings check-in counters sit along the T1 departures hall

Terminal 1 at Hamburg Helmut Schmidt Airport handles Eurowings, Ryanair, and Condor, with all three using the T1 check-in zone on the same upper-level departures floor. Security for T1 sits directly behind these counters, and average midday waits run 10–20 minutes on normal weekdays. If you’re flying Eurowings out of HAM, your flight almost always goes from a T1 gate, so stay in this building unless your boarding pass specifically shows T2.

Security in T1 feeds straight into a single main airside concourse

Once through the T1 security lanes, you end up in one central airside area serving Schengen gates on the lower-numbered side and non-Schengen gates toward the higher numbers. Walking end to end in this part of T1 takes about 7–10 minutes at a normal pace. There’s no train or shuttle between T1 and T2; the walk landside between buildings runs about 3–5 minutes if you exit near the T1 arrivals doors.

Gate-side coffee and snacks come from Marché Bakery in T1

Marché Bakery operates on the airside level of Terminal 1, within a short walk of the Eurowings Schengen gates. Expect typical bakery pricing: coffee around €3–4 and sandwiches roughly €5–7, with pastries often under €3. Lines build around early morning bank departures, so if your 06:00 Eurowings flight boards from a T1 gate, plan to hit Marché before 05:30 if you care about having more than whatever is left in the case.

Hamburg Airport Lounge in T1 opens early for morning departures

The Hamburg Airport Lounge sits airside in T1 and typically opens before 06:00 to catch the first wave of Eurowings and Condor flights. Entry usually comes via Priority Pass, business-class tickets on participating carriers, or a paid walk-up fee around €40. Expect standard cold snacks, a few hot items, self-service drinks, Wi‑Fi, and basic shower facilities that regulars say are usable but not luxury-level.

Lufthansa Lounge in T1 mainly serves Star Alliance traffic

The Lufthansa Lounge in T1 is placed airside near the gates used for LH and some Eurowings codeshares, operating roughly from first Lufthansa departure to the last arrival of the day. Access follows standard Star Alliance rules: Lufthansa and Star Alliance business-class passengers plus Star Alliance Gold members on same-day flights. The food lineup leans toward cold cuts, bread, and soup, with draft beer and basic spirits at the self-service bar.

Emirates Lounge in T1 times its hours around EK flights

The Emirates Lounge is airside in Terminal 1 close to the gates used for the daily EK services, usually opening around two hours before each departure and closing once boarding wraps. This lounge focuses on Emirates business- and first-class passengers plus eligible Skywards elites, with a hot buffet, a stronger alcohol selection than the generic lounges, and direct boarding to the aircraft from certain gates when operations allow.

Separate “Airport Lounge” spaces in T1 add capacity at peak times

Alongside the branded spaces, Terminal 1 lists additional Airport Lounge facilities that act as contract lounges for multiple carriers and card programs. These sit airside and typically follow flight banks, closing in the late evening after the last departures around 22:00–23:00. Amenities run to Wi‑Fi, snacks, self-pour drinks, and basic seating; if one lounge is full, staff sometimes redirect you to the other Airport Lounge further down the concourse.

Arrivals level in T1 lines up directly with public transport

On arrival at T1, baggage claim sits one level below departures, with carousels clearly labeled for Eurowings, Ryanair, and Condor flights. From the T1 arrivals exit, it’s about a 5‑minute indoor walk to the S‑Bahn Hamburg Airport (Flughafen) station for S1 trains into the city, running roughly every 10 minutes in daytime hours. If you’re connecting landside to T2, follow the overhead “Terminal 2” signs and stay inside; you don’t need a bus or shuttle.

Build a 90‑minute cushion for T1 morning departures

For a 07:00 Eurowings or Condor flight out of T1, plan to be at the check-in counters by 05:30 to clear security, grab something from Marché Bakery if needed, and still reach the gate 25–30 minutes before boarding. Self-connection between T1 and T2 with checked bags needs at least two hours door to door to cover baggage drop, a potential security queue, and the walk between terminals.
