Terminal 1 Parking

Short-stay

Drivers at Cairo T1 often wait in Terminal 1 Parking

Terminal 1 Parking sits directly in front of Terminal 1 at Cairo International Airport and is the default meeting point for many private drivers and tour guides. Several trip reports mention that instead of waiting at the curb, drivers tell you to head into the short-stay car park to meet them. If you’re being collected, confirm Terminal 1 Parking in your WhatsApp message, not just “at the airport.”

This is a short-stay car park serving Terminal 1 only, used heavily during peak morning and late-night arrival banks. There’s no metro to CAI, so most people arrive by private car or taxi, which pushes a lot of traffic through the same access road into the T1 car park. Build at least a 15–20 minute buffer from drop-off or pick-up here to your check-in desk or gate security queue.

To reach the terminal from Terminal 1 Parking, you walk a few minutes to the entrance, then pass through the outer security screening that sits at the door to T1. FlyerTalk regulars say this security step can add more time than the walk itself, especially during busy EgyptAir and Saudia bank departures from Terminal 1. Don’t cut it fine for regional flights; aim to be at the parking lot at least 2 hours before departure.

One recurring complaint: some Cairo taxi drivers try to add the car park ticket fee on top of the agreed fare when exiting Terminal 1 Parking. A detailed trip report advises agreeing a flat price that includes any airport parking before you get in, then politely refusing extra charges at the barrier. Expect this conversation more often during late-night pickups when short-stay tickets stack up quickly for drivers.

Regulars use Terminal 1 Parking as a fixed rendezvous point for same-day city runs: get dropped at T1 in the morning, then meet the same driver in the same parking row later to avoid curb chaos. Pin a specific spot in your map app (for example, “Row C near the pay machines”) and send a screenshot so you and your driver are talking about the same place.

Practical tip: before landing at CAI Terminal 1, text your driver “meet in T1 short-stay car park, same place as drop-off, parking fee included in fare” and avoid a 5-minute argument at the exit barrier.
