Taxi 20-30 min

20–30 minutes from SKP to the city, any time of day

Airport Taxi is the official taxi line at Skopje International Airport (SKP) and runs from Terminal T directly to central Skopje in about 20–30 minutes, depending on traffic. It’s the straightforward option when you land on a 02:00 or 05:00 arrival and don’t want to deal with bus timetables or connections. Cars line up right outside the arrivals hall exit, so you walk less than 100 meters from baggage claim to the taxi rank.

The service operates 24/7, matching the airport’s late-night and early-morning flight banks, including Wizz Air’s early departures and late returns. Fares into the city typically fall in a fixed-range zone for the Skopje urban area; recent reports put the ride from SKP to the city center at roughly the cost of a mid-range restaurant meal for one. You pay the driver directly, usually in Macedonian denar, though some drivers may accept euros in small notes.

Pickup is at the marked Airport Taxi stand outside Terminal T arrivals, just past the sliding doors and to the right of the main exit. From there, the route runs along the A4 motorway toward Skopje, passing the turnoff for Petrovec within the first 5–10 minutes. Trips typically end around Macedonia Square or the Old Bazaar area, about 23 km from the airport. If you’re heading further, like Karpoš or Aerodrom, tell the driver before leaving the rank.

To avoid haggling, confirm the price to “Skopje center” with the dispatcher or the board at the official stand before you get into the car; this takes 10–15 seconds and saves annoyance later. If you land during a busy bank, such as around 16:00–18:00, you might have to wait one or two taxi cycles, but even then you’re usually moving within 10–15 minutes.

Step-by-step: using Airport Taxi at SKP

  • 1. After landing at Terminal T, clear passport control and collect bags at baggage claim (typically 15–30 minutes after arrival).
  • 2. Exit customs and follow the “Taxi” signs straight out the main doors of arrivals.
  • 3. Turn right to the official Airport Taxi rank and check the posted fare board to central Skopje.
  • 4. Tell the dispatcher or driver your destination (for example “Macedonia Square” or a specific hotel) and confirm the total price before you get in.
  • 5. Load your luggage into the trunk; standard sedans fit at least 2–3 large suitcases plus carry-ons.
  • 6. Pay in cash at the end of the ride; keep small bills (for example 100 or 200 MKD notes) so you’re not waiting on change.

One last tip: stop at an airport ATM in arrivals before heading out, withdraw at least 1,000–1,500 MKD, and you won’t be stuck arguing over exchange rates or card readers at the curb.
