140 MKD gets you from SKP to Skopje city by bus

The public bus from Skopje International Airport (T) into town costs about 140 Macedonian denars one way and runs on a fixed timetable. Services usually sync with arriving flights during the day and evening, but there can be gaps of 60–120 minutes late at night. Rides into the city take roughly 30–40 minutes, depending on traffic on the A4 highway into Skopje.

Buses operate between the airport and central Skopje, typically stopping at the Main Bus Station (Avtobuska Stanica) about 2 km from Macedonia Square. Look for the bus stop just outside the arrivals area in T, near the main parking area, rather than inside the terminal. Most vehicles are standard intercity-style coaches with luggage space under the floor and limited standing room.

Tickets usually cost around 140 MKD (sometimes sold as 180 MKD return) and are paid in cash to the driver or at a small kiosk when open. Cards are hit or miss, especially on older buses, so keep at least 200 MKD in cash from the airport ATM. Keep the paper ticket; inspectors occasionally board near town, especially on busy daytime services.

Timetables are published with specific departure times from both SKP and Skopje’s Main Bus Station, often aligned with flights from larger carriers like Wizz Air and Turkish Airlines. Expect earlier and more frequent departures between roughly 06:00 and 22:00, with fewer options after midnight. If your flight lands around 02:00–04:00, you may be looking at a wait of 60+ minutes or needing a taxi instead.

There’s no separate luggage fee; one suitcase plus hand luggage goes in the underfloor compartment or overhead racks. Seating is first-come, first-served, and buses can fill up on Wizz-heavy arrival banks from Western Europe. Air conditioning usually works but can struggle on 30°C+ summer days along the airport–city stretch.

Watch out for last-minute timetable adjustments posted only on a printed sheet at the airport stop or at Skopje’s Main Bus Station. A scheduled 14:00 can quietly shift to 14:15, so build in a 20-minute buffer before any train or regional bus you’re connecting to downtown.

Tip: Screenshot the latest bus schedule before you land and hit the airport ATM for at least 200 MKD cash so you’re not stuck hunting for change at the stop.
