Parqueo Techado

Covered parking

Covered parking sits directly in front of T1 at SAL

Parqueo Techado is the airport’s covered parking option right by Terminal T1 at El Salvador International Airport Saint Óscar Arnulfo Romero y Galdámez (SAL). You park in a multi-level structure with a roof over every bay, so the car stays out of the strong mid-day sun that regularly pushes temperatures above 30°C. It’s closer to check-in counters than most open-air lots, so walking time with bags is short.

This is standard paid airport parking: drive up, take a ticket at the entrance gate, and pay at staffed booths on exit. Rates are higher than the uncovered lots in front of T1, but you’re paying for shade and slightly better weather protection during heavy tropical rains from May to October. Payment usually runs in Salvadoran colón-equivalent US dollar pricing, since SAL is dollarized, so keep some small bills or a working card ready at the exit.

Security patrols the covered structure and surrounding roads around the clock, with visible guards during busy departure banks for Avianca and other international flights in the early morning and late evening. Lighting stays on all night, which helps if you land on a 23:00 or later arrival and have to walk back to your car with luggage. As always at SAL, don’t leave valuables visible in the vehicle, even in covered parking.

There’s no dedicated shuttle for Parqueo Techado; you just walk straight to Terminal T1 in a few minutes, rolling your bags along the marked pedestrian paths. Use your phone to drop a pin near your bay and photograph the level and column number when you park; signage isn’t as detailed as in larger North American hubs, and that quick photo saves time hunting for the car after a long flight.
