Every 6–8 minutes, trolleybus 59 runs from PRG to metro
Trolleybus 59 links Václav Havel Airport Prague to Nádraží Veleslavín metro station on line A in about 15–20 minutes. The stop sits directly outside the arrivals halls of T1 and T2, signed as “Bus 59 / Trolleybus 59 / Nádraží Veleslavín.” You stay within Prague’s standard public transport system, so no airport surcharge or special ticket needed.
A standard 30-minute PID ticket currently costs 30–40 CZK, and a 90-minute ticket costs around 40–60 CZK, valid across buses, trams, and metro. You can buy tickets from yellow PID machines in the arrivals hall of T1 and T2 and at the bus stop, with card payment accepted on the newer machines. Validate the paper ticket in the small orange validator on board Trolleybus 59 as soon as you board, or tap in if using a contactless card where validators allow it.
The bus runs roughly from around 4:00 to just after midnight, with daytime headways of about 6–8 minutes and late-evening gaps closer to 20 minutes. Trolleybus 59 stops at both terminals: check the electronic display above the platform showing “Nádraží Veleslavín” as the destination. At Nádraží Veleslavín, the line connects directly to metro A, which gets you to stations like Malostranská, Staroměstská, and Můstek in about 10–15 minutes.
Step-by-step from arrivals: 1) Exit customs at T1 or T2 and follow blue “Bus / Public transport” signs, about a 2–3 minute walk. 2) Use the yellow PID machine to buy a 30- or 90-minute ticket, which covers both Trolleybus 59 and the metro. 3) Go to the marked “59 Nádraží Veleslavín” stop and line up at the front door. 4) Board, then immediately validate your ticket in an orange validator or tap a contactless card if the validator has that option. 5) Ride to the final stop, Nádraží Veleslavín, around 15–20 minutes. 6) Follow “Metro A / Green line” signs downstairs and use the same time-valid ticket for the metro ride into the center.
Watch out for ticket inspections, which happen on both Trolleybus 59 and metro A; a fine runs into the hundreds of CZK if your ticket is not validated. Also note that large luggage technically needs a separate luggage ticket in the PID system, usually around 20 CZK per large item. For the smoothest trip, buy a 90-minute ticket plus one luggage ticket right in the terminal before you head to the stop.
One final tip: if you land late, check the PID timetable for the last Trolleybus 59 of the night and have the airport taxi stand as a backup in case your flight into T1 or T2 is delayed past the final departure.
