Qantas International First Lounge

T2 Open · Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri, Sat, Sun: 04:45-22:15; Wed: 05:30-22:15

Extra time in T2 usually means the Qantas International First Lounge

This lounge sits airside in Terminal 2 above the main concourse, and regulars will shift flights or arrive an hour earlier just to eat here instead of in the Qantas Business Lounge downstairs. It serves oneworld First passengers and oneworld Emerald status holders only, so the crowd stays thinner than the larger business space below.

Doors open from 04:45 to 22:15 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with a slightly later 05:30 start on Wednesday, which lines up well with the first Qantas long‑haul departures from Melbourne. If your flight leaves near closing time, staff usually stop taking new dining orders not long before 22:15, so don’t leave a full meal to the last 10 minutes.

Entry sits after immigration and security in T2, so you need a same‑day international boarding pass and oneworld First or Emerald status to get in; there’s no paid day pass option at all. That means no turning up with a Priority Pass or cash and hoping, and it also means far fewer people roaming around with roll‑aboards waiting for a seat.

The big draw here is the restaurant‑style dining room, where staff take your order at the table and plate food individually instead of sending you to a buffet line. Menus rotate but typically cover breakfast in the early hours from around 05:00, then a switch to all‑day dining that runs through the late‑evening wave of departures up to about 22:00.

You still get the usual lounge basics: separate work zones with power at most seats, a full bar pouring Australian wine and spirits all day, and showers that beat anything in the public T2 restrooms by a long way. Wi‑Fi is tuned for people trying to clear a work inbox before a 14‑hour sector, not just casual scrolling at the gate.

There are no consistent red‑flag complaints in public reviews, but it’s still inside a terminal and can get busy in the 18:00–21:00 long‑haul bank when multiple oneworld flights depart. If you want a quieter corner, head away from the dining section towards the far end of the lounge where the seating stretches closer to the windows overlooking the T2 apron.

Tip: for a proper sit‑down meal and shower before an overnight flight out of Melbourne T2, aim to arrive at the lounge at least 60–90 minutes before boarding time, not just before the gate opens.
