Qantas Domestic Business Lounge

T1

One level above the Qantas Club in T1, this lounge is where MEL regulars go to actually get work done.

The Qantas Domestic Business Lounge sits upstairs in Terminal 1, directly above the larger Qantas Club, and mainly serves Qantas domestic Business passengers and Platinum tier flyers. Access is airside in T1, after security, and tied to Qantas Business boarding passes or Qantas Frequent Flyer Platinum/Platinum One (plus equivalent on oneworld). There’s no paid day pass option here, so traffic stays more controlled than the Qantas Club below.

The space runs alongside the T1 concourse, so you’re always within a short walk of most Qantas domestic gates in Melbourne, including the busy Sydney shuttles. Seating leans toward rows of work-friendly chairs and bar-style counters facing the windows. Power outlets show up at a good percentage of seats, so you aren’t stuck hugging a wall to charge a laptop before a 7:00 or 8:00 departure bank.

Food is classic Qantas domestic lounge: hot dishes at main meal times, lighter salads and snacks in the mid-afternoon, and self-serve fridges with soft drinks. Expect the usual pasta, curry, or stew rotation in the evenings, backed by basics like soup and bread. Coffee from the staffed barista station is the standout; aim for a flat white pulled to Melbourne standards rather than relying on the push-button machines near the buffet line.

Alcohol is self-serve within the standard Qantas domestic range: Australian beer on tap or in bottles, a couple of red and white wines, and basic spirits. It’s not a tasting room line-up, but it beats paying bar prices in T1. Fridges usually carry standard mixers plus juice, and water stations sit near the food counter and the bar area so you can refill a bottle before a two- to four-hour sector.

Because access is limited to Business and higher tiers, the Business Lounge usually feels calmer than the Qantas Club downstairs during the 6:00–9:00 morning and 16:00–19:00 evening peaks. If you need to join a video call or clear an inbox before a MEL–SYD or MEL–BNE sprint, this is the better bet in T1 compared with hunting for a quiet gate seat.

Practical tip: If you have time, clear security in T1 at least 45 minutes before boarding, head straight upstairs to the Business Lounge for a barista coffee, then walk down to your gate when the screens show “boarding” rather than waiting for final call announcements in the crowded main concourse.
