Wi‑Fi here beats T1’s public network every single time
The Qantas Club in Melbourne T1 runs daily from 05:45 to 21:45, and for a lot of Qantas domestic regulars it functions as a pre‑flight office more than a lounge. It sits airside in Terminal 1, past security, serving only Qantas and eligible Oneworld passengers, so you have to be flying from T1 to use it.
Access is through Qantas Frequent Flyer status, eligible Qantas Club memberships, or reciprocal Oneworld status; the airport doesn’t advertise any paid day pass option here, unlike some third‑party lounges in MEL. If you don’t already have status or a paid membership, assume you’re not getting in on a one‑off basis.
Food runs to the usual domestic Qantas Club pattern: basic hot items at peak meal times and lighter snacks and salads in between, all self‑serve and included in the entry cost. Coffee comes from a staffed barista station during busy morning and evening banks, and there’s a self‑serve machine for off‑peak hours, which matters if you’re on a 06:00–07:00 departure and want a quick flat white.
Drinks are mostly house wine, standard spirits, and beer, with premium options sometimes available for extra charge during evening service after around 16:00. If you care more about a strong coffee and a quiet table than a pre‑flight drink, this place makes more sense than the public bars along the T1 concourse.
Power outlets sit along the main work benches and near many of the window seats, and the lounge Wi‑Fi usually runs faster than the free MEL airport network out in T1. Seating is split between armchairs and long tables, so you can actually open a 15‑inch laptop without elbowing the neighbour at the gate.
Peak crush hits before the 07:00–09:00 and 17:00–19:00 bank of east‑coast flights, when finding a spare power point can take a lap. If your flight is during those windows, add at least 10 minutes to scout a decent spot and grab food before queues build at the buffet and barista bar.
Tip: If you want a quick exit to boarding, sit on the side closest to the main T1 escalators; that drops you back into the gate area within about 2 minutes, even with a small crowd at the lounge desk.
