T2’s so-called VIP Lounge is invite-only and barely documented
All the chatter about Chennai T2 lounges points to Plaza Premium and restaurant vouchers, not a walk-up VIP Lounge, which tells you this space is locked down for airline or official guests only. If your boarding pass or an airline staffer in T2 doesn’t specifically hand you a “VIP Lounge” invite, assume you’re not getting in.
Terminal 2 at MAA officially lists a VIP Lounge in T2, invitation only, but frequent flyers on routes like Lufthansa and Air India report being sent to a makeshift Plaza Premium lounge instead. One FlyerTalk poster even said they were only given access to Copper Chimney restaurant when flying Air India in premium cabins, not any VIP facility.
Access rules here are simple and strict: T2, airside, invitation only, no Priority Pass, no paid door rate, and no walk-up list. If your airline doesn’t mention “VIP Lounge” for your specific flight at check-in in T2, plan around using general seating, Plaza Premium (if operating), or whatever restaurant voucher the airline issues.
Hours are not published anywhere official, and there are zero mainstream reviews on Reddit, blogs, or FlyerTalk describing food, showers, or even seating in this VIP Lounge. The only hard data you get from frequent flyers is that T2 “does not have a proper lounge” yet, which strongly implies the VIP room runs as a private space for government or airline use rather than a regular contract lounge.
Don’t build your connection plan in MAA T2 around this VIP Lounge unless an airline email or agent at Terminal 2 explicitly writes it on your invitation. Assume Plaza Premium or a restaurant like Copper Chimney instead, eat in T2 before boarding if you care about a proper meal, and keep expectations minimal for anything labeled “VIP” unless you’re personally handed that invite.
