P2 Surface Lot

Long stay

10–15 minutes from T1, P2 Surface Lot is the long-stay workhorse at Kunming Changshui

P2 Surface Lot sits in the main parking zone for T1, about a 10–15 minute walk from the terminal doors depending on your row. It’s a standard uncovered lot, so your car stays in the open, not in a garage. This is the lot most people use for trips of several days or more, since the pricing is set up for long stays rather than short drop-offs.

Signage for P2 is marked in English and Chinese with “P2” on overhead boards as you approach Kunming Changshui International Airport. The lot is integrated into the airport road system that feeds directly into T1, so you don’t have to leave airport grounds or cross public streets. Entry is via automated ticket machines at the P2 barrier, and you’ll pay on exit based on how many hours or days you’ve stayed.

Rates at P2 Surface Lot are typically calculated by the hour with a capped daily maximum, which makes more sense than the T1 curbside area if you’re gone 24 hours or longer. Because this is an open-air surface lot with a lot of capacity, it usually has space even during busy Chinese holiday periods like Golden Week and Spring Festival. That said, the closer rows to the T1 side of P2 tend to fill first, so expect a slightly longer walk if you arrive late in the day.

There’s no dedicated shuttle loop from P2 to T1 at Kunming Changshui; you walk from your space toward the terminal following the marked pedestrian paths and zebra crossings. At normal pace, most travelers cover the distance from a mid-lot row to the T1 departures hall in about 10 minutes. If you have heavy luggage or kids in tow, add 5 minutes to avoid rushing through the parking aisles and road crossings.

Payment at P2 Surface Lot usually works through pay-on-exit machines that accept Chinese bank cards and mobile wallets like WeChat Pay and Alipay, with cash counters open during standard airport operating hours that match the first and last flights of the day. Keep your entry ticket dry and accessible; losing it typically means being charged a higher flat fee. One practical tip: snap a photo of your row number and the nearest P2 sign before you walk off, since the surface rows can look very similar when you return at night.
