Bus 13 runs between Terminal 1 and central Jeddah

The Airport Shuttle Bus at King Abdulaziz International Airport (JED) runs as a local city bus service, mainly using Route 13 between Terminal 1 and central Jeddah. Buses run 24 hours a day with gaps of around 20–40 minutes, depending on traffic and time of day. This is the budget option compared with taxis or ride-hailing from JED.

Most airport buses stop outside Terminal 1’s arrivals area, near the main taxi rank and parking zones P1–P2. Look for the marked city bus stops with route numbers in Arabic and English; Route 13 is the standard airport connection. If you land at the Hajj terminal, expect to take an internal shuttle or taxi over to Terminal 1 first, as not every public bus serves the Hajj terminal directly.

Fares on the airport shuttle bus usually sit in the SAR 3–5 range per ride, paid either in cash (Saudi riyals only) or via local transport cards and apps. Keep at least SAR 10 in small bills and coins so you’re not stuck if the driver or ticket machine has limited change. Compared with taxis that often run SAR 70–120 into the city, the cost difference is significant if you’re traveling solo.

Allow at least 45–60 minutes from Terminal 1 to central areas like Al-Balad or Corniche because traffic on the main airport road can stack up, especially between 17:00 and 21:00. If your flight departs from JED, build a 90-minute buffer before check-in closing time when using the bus, including a 20–40 minute wait plus the ride itself. For domestic departures out of Terminal 1, you generally want to be at the terminal 2 hours before takeoff.

Buses are standard city vehicles with front and middle doors and space for small and medium bags near the seats. If your checked luggage weighs over 23 kg or you’re juggling more than two large suitcases, a taxi from JED may be easier than trying to lift everything on and off a crowded bus. Seats can fill quickly after major arrivals banks, especially after widebody flights from 18:00–23:00.

One practical tip: before leaving airport Wi‑Fi at Terminal 1, open a maps app and download the Jeddah area and Route 13 segment offline so you can see each major stop between the airport and your hotel without relying on mobile data.
