Star Alliance elites still sent to Plaza Premium instead of SilverKris
Near Gate 5 in T1, the Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge at HKG technically sits in the Star Alliance lineup but remains closed, with operating hours of 06:00–00:00 listed yet access in practice redirected. Recent FlyerTalk reports have United (UA), Singapore (SQ), and Thai (TG) lounges all shut, so your AC, NH, OZ, LH, LX, TK, UA, or other *G boarding pass currently gets you sent to Plaza Premium instead.
This lounge used to be the default for SQ and other Star Alliance passengers departing from the low-number gates in T1, especially around gates 1–15, but the thread notes that staff now point people to Plaza Premium near Gate 60 or the lounge near Gate 1. That shift means the SilverKris space by Gate 5 isn’t part of the real-world options list right now, even though it’s still shown on some airline lounge maps.
Under normal circumstances, entry covers passengers flying on carriers like Air Canada (AC), Air China (CA), Air India (AI), Air New Zealand (NZ), ANA (NH), Asiana (OZ), Austrian (OS), EgyptAir (MS), Ethiopian (ET), EVA Air (BR), Lufthansa (LH), Shenzhen Airlines (ZH), Singapore Airlines (SQ), South African (SA), SWISS (LX), Thai (TG), Turkish (TK), and United (UA) from T1. For the moment those same passengers are funneled to Plaza Premium instead, which several posts call “overcrowded” with “cheapest F&B imaginable.”
Regulars in that same discussion say they now default to Plaza Premium at Gate 1 before short-haul flights on carriers like NH or BR and to the Plaza Premium near Gate 60 before long-haul flights on UA or LH. A few even mention routing around HKG or trimming layovers to under 90 minutes because there is, in their words, “no *G lounge” worth sitting in while SilverKris, UA, and TG remain dark.
Watch out for: planning a 3–4 hour connection in T1 on the assumption you can camp out in SilverKris near Gate 5; based on current reports, you end up in Plaza Premium instead, hunting for a seat and picking through basic buffet trays at peak banks around 08:00–10:00 and 18:00–21:00. Build a plan B that includes gate-side seating near your actual departure gate.
Practical tip: until someone on FlyerTalk or your airline app explicitly confirms SilverKris at HKG T1 has reopened, treat it as closed and head straight toward Plaza Premium at Gate 1 or 60, then leave at least 20 minutes before boarding to walk back to any low single-digit gate like Gate 5.
