Taxi

Ten to twenty minutes from GMP to western Seoul by cab

The Taxi Stand Domestic Terminal at Gimpo International Airport (GMP) sits directly outside the arrivals level of the Domestic terminal, about a 1–2 minute walk from the baggage carousels. For business parks in western Seoul like Magok or Digital Media City, a taxi ride from here usually runs 10–25 minutes in light traffic, with fares often in the ₩10,000–₩25,000 range depending on distance and time of day.

Taxis line up in marked lanes 24 hours a day at the Domestic terminal curb, with standard (ilban) cabs, larger deluxe/van types, and some accredited international taxis. Each car shows a lit roof sign and a registered plate number, and every ride uses a metered fare starting around ₩4,800 in Seoul, increasing by small increments per distance and time. Credit cards and T-money usually work in most newer cabs, but keep at least ₩20,000 cash in case the terminal reader is down.

For a fast exit, follow the yellow directional signs from the Domestic arrivals hall to the taxi icons, then join the short queue at the stand closest to Door 3 or Door 4, depending on the day’s lane assignments. Dispatch staff often group solo passengers into regular sedans and families of three or four into larger vehicles to avoid long waits; even during weekday peak arrivals around 8:00–10:00 and 18:00–20:00, you usually move out within 10–15 minutes.

Expect a ride to central Seoul spots like Seoul Station or City Hall to take 25–40 minutes from the Domestic terminal, again traffic-dependent, with late-evening runs sometimes dropping under 25 minutes via the Gangbyeonbuk-ro expressway. If you are heading to nearby districts like Yeomchang, Gayang, or Magok within 5–8 km, the taxi usually beats the two-transfer subway route by at least 15 minutes door to door.

Step-by-step from Domestic arrivals

  • 1. Clear baggage claim at the Domestic terminal and exit through the sliding doors near Exit 3 or Exit 4.
  • 2. Follow the overhead taxi symbols for about 50–100 meters to the curbside lanes.
  • 3. Join the marked queue for regular taxis unless you specifically need a jumbo taxi for 4+ people with large luggage.
  • 4. Show your destination address in Korean on your phone or a printed sheet; include the district name (for example, “마곡동” or “상암동”) to avoid confusion.
  • 5. Watch the meter start around the standard Seoul base fare level, and check that the driver sets the correct rate before leaving the stand.
  • 6. On arrival, pay with card, T-money, or cash, and ask for a receipt (“영수증 주세요”) so you have the taxi number in case you forget a bag.

One tip: screenshot your hotel or office address from KakaoMap or Naver Map in Korean text before landing at GMP Domestic; showing that to the driver at the Taxi Stand Domestic Terminal usually cuts your curbside time to under 30 seconds.
