Train

43 minutes gets you from Gimpo to Incheon on AREX

AREX Airport Railroad runs between Gimpo International Airport (GMP) and Incheon International Airport (ICN) in about 43 minutes, with trains every 6–12 minutes in daytime. It uses the standard All-Stop service here, so no seat reservations or supplements: you just tap a T-money, Cashbee, or credit card at the gates. If your connection window is under 2.5 hours, AREX is usually the safest bet compared with traffic on the Incheon Bridge expressway.

From GMP terminal to the AREX platforms

From the International Terminal, follow signs for the subway and AREX; walking time down the escalators and through the concourse is usually under 7 minutes. From the Domestic Terminal, factor in an extra 5–10 minutes to move via the terminal corridor or shuttle to the rail concourse. The station itself sits between the two terminals, directly under the road with clear "AREX" and "Line 5/9" signs in blue and orange.

Trains, fares, and timing

A one-way AREX All-Stop ticket from Gimpo to Incheon T1 costs around ₩3,950, rising slightly if you continue to Incheon T2. First train toward ICN leaves around 05:30, last train just before 23:45, but check the day’s timetable on site. For Seoul-bound trips, Gimpo to Hongik Univ. is roughly 13–15 minutes, and Gimpo to Seoul Station runs about 22–25 minutes, which usually beats a taxi during rush hour.

Best for Line 2 transfer points like Hongdae and Gongdeok

AREX is strongest if you’re staying near Hongik Univ. (Line 2), Gongdeok (Line 5/6/Gyeongui–Jungang), or Seoul Station. With one train from Gimpo to Hongdae, you skip the Line 5 transfer and hit a dense hotel zone within 300–800 m of the station exits. If your hotel is south of the river along Line 9, consider Line 9 direct from GMP instead; that keeps you off AREX entirely and often cuts out one transfer.

Step-by-step: using AREX at Gimpo

  • 1. Land at International or Domestic and follow "Subway/AREX" signs downstairs toward the station.
  • 2. At the concourse machines, buy a single-journey AREX ticket or just tap in with a T-money card or contactless credit card.
  • 3. Check the platform screens for trains toward Incheon Int’l Airport or toward Seoul Station, then head to the correct side.
  • 4. Board any All-Stop train; ride 13–15 minutes to Hongik Univ., about 22–25 minutes to Seoul Station, or about 43 minutes to Incheon.
  • 5. Tap out at your station, then follow signs to the correct subway line, exit number, or terminal (T1 or T2 at ICN).

One last tip

Build a 15-minute buffer before the last AREX departure that still gets you to your next flight’s check-in or security cutoff; Seoul traffic can stall, but the train timetable at Gimpo rarely does.
