15 minutes from Gimpo International to Gangmae on the Gimpo Goldline
The Gimpo Goldline is a light rail running roughly 11 stations between Gimpo International Airport and western new-town districts like Yangchon and Pungmu. It sits on the city side of the airport, linking mostly residential areas rather than central Seoul. Think of it as the line locals use to reach new apartment complexes, not Myeongdong or Hongdae.
From the airport stop at Gimpo International Airport Station, trains typically run every 3–6 minutes at peak and around every 6–10 minutes off-peak. The line connects to Seoul Metro Line 5 and Line 9 in the wider Gimpo corridor, but it does not run directly into central Seoul on its own. If your hotel is at stations like Sau or Balsan, you’re usually better on Line 9 or AREX instead of the Goldline.
Light-rail cars on the Gimpo Goldline are shorter than standard Seoul Metro trains, often just two cars per set, so they fill up quickly at rush hour around 08:00–09:00 and 18:00–19:00. Most riders are local commuters heading to large apartment districts near Jichuk and beyond. With a 1,450–1,650 KRW T-money fare band, the price difference versus Line 9 or buses is small.
To catch it from International or Domestic terminals, follow signs to the integrated Gimpo Airport Station concourse on B1/B2 and look for the 금포골드라인 (Gimpo Goldline) signage, usually marked in gold on system maps. The station is fully inside the airport transport hub, so you stay under cover the whole way and do not need to cross external roads to reach the platforms.
If your hotel or Airbnb is directly at a Goldline stop such as Geolpo Bukbyeon or Yangchon, this line can save one transfer versus taking AREX plus a local bus. For everyone else heading to central Seoul hubs like Seoul Station, Hongik Univ., or Gangnam, use AREX, Line 5, Line 9, or the 6000-series airport limobus instead and skip the Goldline detour.
Practical tip: Before landing at GMP, pop open Naver Map or KakaoMap, type your hotel name, and check if the nearest stop is explicitly listed as “Gimpo Goldline”; if not, don’t bother with this line from the airport.
