Fares from AED 3 put the Dubai Public Bus at the top of the cheap options

Dubai Public Bus runs from all three terminals at DXB (T1, T2, T3) into the city, and it’s the lowest-cost way out of the airport if you’re not in a rush. You tap in and out with a Nol card; a standard trip into central areas like Deira or Bur Dubai usually runs around AED 5–8 depending on zones. Expect the bus to take 45–75 minutes into town, compared with 20–30 minutes by taxi or metro.

From Terminal 1, routes like 401 and 402 stop just outside Arrivals, with signs pointing to the bus stands within a 3–5 minute walk. Terminal 3 has clearly marked bus stops near Exit 3, and Terminal 2’s stop sits by the main arrivals forecourt. Services typically run every 20–30 minutes during the day, stretching to 30–40 minutes late at night, so check the timetable boards at each stand.

You can’t pay cash on the airport buses, so you need a Nol card loaded with at least AED 7.5 before boarding. There’s a ticket office and vending machines in DXB’s metro stations near T1 and T3, and many travelers buy a Silver Nol card for AED 25 (AED 19 credit plus AED 6 card cost) to cover several rides. Keep at least AED 3 on your card to avoid the gates rejecting your tap-in.

Step-by-step from T3: 1) Follow “Metro/Bus” signs from baggage claim for about 200–300 meters. 2) Buy or top up a Nol card at the metro level machines. 3) Exit toward the clearly marked “Bus” area by Exit 3. 4) Check the route boards for buses 401/402 or other city lines and confirm the last stop on the LED display. 5) Tap your Nol on the reader by the door when boarding. 6) Press the stop button 50–100 meters before your stop, and tap out on the rear reader when you exit.

Air-conditioned RTA buses have luggage space in the front section and a dedicated Women & Children area in the first rows; men usually sit or stand behind the marked line. Most airport buses run from early morning (around 5:00) to after midnight, but overnight coverage can be patchy, especially from T2, so confirm times on the printed RTA charts by the stand.

Final tip: if your hotel is along a metro line, ride the bus just once to a key hub like Deira City Centre or Union (about 15–25 minutes from DXB), then switch to the metro to cut both cost and guesswork on your first day.
