Terminal T2 hosts 3 airlines. It's China Express Airlines's home turf at CKG.
Older domestic Terminal 2 handles China Southern and friends
China Southern, Shenzhen Airlines, and XiamenAir all run domestic flights from Terminal 2 (T2) at Chongqing Jiangbei, and regulars call this the “old side” of the airport compared with T3A. If your ticket shows a flight number like CZ, ZH, or MF on a mainland route, double-check the terminal code, because those often go from T2 instead of the newer T3.
T2 sits southwest of T3 and is split into departure and arrival halls on separate floors, with domestic check-in counters grouped by airline. Check-in for China Southern usually lines up in a dedicated island toward the middle of the hall, while Shenzhen Airlines and XiamenAir counters sit off to one side. Build at least a 2-hour buffer before departure here, especially around morning peaks between 07:00 and 09:00 when long lines can form.
Security screening for domestic flights in T2 is on the same level as check-in, feeding into older-style gate areas with basic seating. Gates are numbered in a straightforward sequence, but some bus-gate positions mean last-minute walks down to ground level and boarding by coach. If you are connecting from T2 to T3, factor in 20–30 minutes for walking and following signs, even though both are within the same Chongqing Jiangbei complex.
Reviews on Flightradar24 single out the T2 arrival area as feeling like a bus station, especially when compared with the much newer T3A building. Baggage claim belts sit directly behind the public arrivals hall, and crowds build fast when multiple flights land within 15–20 minutes of each other. If you land in the late evening bank, be ready for slower baggage delivery and tight space near the car pick-up zone outside.
Inside security, T2 offers only basic facilities compared to T3A, and many travelers report not seeing branded restaurants or big-name coffee chains near the domestic gates. Food options, when open, skew toward simple Chinese fast food and packaged snacks at prices a bit above downtown Chongqing, with bottled water and instant noodles often the default. Plan to eat before arriving at the airport or bring your own snacks if you have a late-night or early-morning departure from T2.
Airport maps and recent trip reports do not list any branded pay-per-use lounges in T2, and even airline-operated rooms are either very small or inconsistently open, especially outside the 06:00–22:00 core. Priority Pass and similar memberships typically route travelers to lounges in T3, not in this older terminal. If lounge access matters to you, check your boarding pass and terminal assignment at least a day before flying and try to book a flight from T3 when your route allows.
Shops in T2 tend to be small convenience-style kiosks and local souvenir stands rather than big international duty-free outlets, and many passengers mention they skip shopping entirely here. Prices on basics like chargers, neck pillows, and umbrellas often run higher than in downtown Chongqing, with limited brand choice on electronics. If you need serious shopping or duty-free, schedule that for T3 or another airport on your itinerary instead of counting on T2.
Ground transport from T2 feeds into the same overall Jiangbei network as T3, with taxis, ride-hailing pick-up points, and connections to Chongqing Metro Line 10 reachable within roughly 5–10 minutes’ walk from arrivals. Taxi queues can spike above 30 minutes during evening peaks around 20:00–22:00, especially on bad-weather days when ride-hailing demand jumps. If you are catching a late-night Yangtze River cruise from central Chongqing, pad your schedule accordingly.
One practical tip: if you see both T2 and T3 options when booking, pick the T3 flight even at a small price premium of 50–100 RMB, and treat T2 as the backup you use only when the schedule makes it unavoidable.

For terminal-changes, budget extra for the 2.5 km separation between T2 and T3. Shuttle or land-side transfer can affect your schedule.
