4300 COP gets you from BOG to central Bogotá on K86
The TransMilenio K86 runs from El Dorado International Airport’s T1 and T2 into the main BRT trunk in Bogotá for a standard fare of about 4,300 COP. The stop sits just outside T1’s arrivals area, a short walk of roughly 200–300 meters; from T2 you first ride the free inter-terminal shuttle and then walk to the same stop. This is the budget move if you’re comfortable with city buses and have a bit of time.
The K86 usually operates from early morning (around 4:30–5:00) until late evening, but headways vary from about 5–15 minutes depending on the hour. It’s a standard TransMilenio articulated red bus, not an airport-only shuttle, and it feeds into the K line corridor toward the city. Expect the ride from BOG to the central system (like Avenida El Dorado) to take roughly 25–40 minutes in light traffic, and longer in rush hour.
You need a Tullave smart card to board K86; a single card costs around 6,000–10,000 COP and you can share it by tapping in multiple people. Ticket counters and recharging machines sit near the airport station entrance by T1. Load at least 10,000–15,000 COP if you’re heading into town and back on the same day. Cash is not taken on the bus itself; everything goes through the card readers at the station gates.
To reach K86 from arrivals at T1, follow signs for "Transporte Público" or "TransMilenio" and head toward the El Dorado bus station over the pedestrian path; it’s roughly a 5–10 minute walk depending on luggage. From T2, factor in an extra 10–15 minutes for the terminal shuttle plus the same 5–10 minute walk to the station. K86 bays are clearly marked with the route code, and the front display will show K86 and its destination corridor.
Once on board, keep bags close; overhead space is limited and crowds build fast during peak hours (roughly 7:00–9:00 and 16:30–19:00). There is no luggage rack, so large checked bags sit at your feet or by the articulated joint. If you land late at night after 22:00, cabs or app rides from BOG may be faster and simpler, but if your flight hits in daylight, K86 is the cheap, predictable play.
Practical tip: buy and load your Tullave card at the first machine you see in T1, then walk straight to the El Dorado station so you’re not fumbling with pesos while a line builds behind you.
