Express bus to Plaça Catalunya

35-minute Aerobus A1 run from T1 to Plaça Catalunya

Aerobus A1 runs non-stop from Barcelona Airport T1 to Plaça Catalunya in about 35 minutes, making it the standard move if you’re heading to the city center without luggage drama. Buses are blue, signed “A1 Plaça Catalunya,” and leave from the clearly marked stops right outside the T1 arrivals area.

The A1 line runs roughly every 5–10 minutes during the day and continues late into the night, so you rarely wait long on the curb at T1. The route is airport–Plaça Espanya–Gran Via–Plaça Universitat–Plaça Catalunya, with all stops announced on screens inside the bus.

A single Aerobus A1 ticket costs around €6–€7 one-way and about €11–€13 for a return, with kids under a certain age traveling free according to posted rules at the stop. You can pay by card at the machine at T1, buy online in advance, or just tap contactless or pay cash directly with the driver.

First departures from T1 usually start around 05:30, and the last buses from Plaça Catalunya back to the airport run close to 00:30–01:00, but check the timetable if you land on a late-night Ryanair or Vueling. Headed back, look for the A1 stop on the side of Plaça Catalunya near Portal de l’Àngel.

The Aerobus A1 stop at Plaça Catalunya drops you right by the FGC and metro L1/L3 connections, plus taxis lined up along the square. That’s handy if your hotel is in Eixample or near Passeig de Gràcia, since most places end up within a 10–15 minute walk or a short metro hop from there.

If you arrive into T2 by mistake for A1, know that this bus only runs from T1, while the A2 line covers T2; a free shuttle links T2 and T1 in around 10 minutes if you need to swap terminals. Build in that extra time so you’re not watching an A1 pull away as you walk up.

One practical tip: when boarding at T1, skip the big crowd at the front door and move down the curb to where the bus stops; you usually shave off 5 minutes of queuing and have a better shot at a seat for the 35-minute ride.
