Gate-side grab at VVI’s MAIN terminal: Newsstand
Right in Viru Viru’s MAIN terminal concourse, Newsstand sits on the airside path most people walk between central security and the busier international gates. It’s a small, straightforward shop: snacks, drinks, magazines, and a few last-minute travel items, nothing more complicated than that.
Hours usually track the MAIN terminal schedule, opening before the first morning departures around 04:30 and staying open until the last late-night flights push out after 23:00. If you land on a red-eye or have a post-midnight delay, expect shutters down and plan on buying water earlier in the evening.
Stock is basic but useful: bottled water, soft drinks, and energy drinks sit in coolers near the entrance, with prices higher than Santa Cruz city shops but normal for VVI. You’ll also see packaged chips, cookies, and a few candy brands you’ll recognize from larger South American chains.
Print options lean toward Spanish-language newspapers from Bolivia and regional outlets, plus a rotating rack of magazines that sometimes includes a couple of English titles. If you need something to read on a Santa Cruz–Miami or Santa Cruz–São Paulo run, grab it here; once you’re at the gate, options drop sharply.
Travel extras run to simple neck pillows, basic phone cables, and cheap wired earphones. Power banks and USB-C cables tend to sell out on busy holiday weekends, so if your connection through MAIN is under 90 minutes, don’t bank on restocks during the same day.
Tip: buy a 1.5L water here after security in MAIN; it’s usually cheaper than grabbing two small bottles near the remote gates.
