Duty Free

Gate area in MAIN stays quiet, but Duty Free draws traffic

Duty Free sits airside in the MAIN terminal at Viru Viru (VVI), just past security before the international gates. It’s one of the few places open for late-night departures, often trading until close to the final outbound flights around 01:00–02:00. Expect a compact shop rather than a mega-store, with shelves focused on liquor, perfume, chocolates, and a small shelf of souvenirs marked “Bolivia.”

Liquor prices run mid-range for South America: a 1L bottle of standard whisky or rum often sits around USD 18–25, with premium labels creeping toward USD 40+. Cigarettes and basic cosmetics line the front, while chocolate multipacks and travel-sized snacks sit near the single central checkout. Selection skews international brands, with just a handful of local spirits like singani appearing near the Bolivian souvenirs.

Stock turnover tracks the evening international bank of flights, so late-night shoppers may find gaps, especially on popular whisky labels and fragrance gift sets. The store is fully post-security, so you can buy liquids freely for direct flights, but check rules if you’re connecting through the US or Europe, since you might need items in a STEB bag for a second security screening.

Quick tip: if you want local singani or chocolate as a last-minute gift, walk this shop before heading to your gate in MAIN; options landside in Santa Cruz can be cheaper, but they won’t be open at 01:00 when many VVI departures leave.
