Gate-side duty free jewelry stop before UVF departures
Columbian Emeralds sits airside in the Main terminal departure lounge at Hewanorra (UVF), just past security and passport control. You’ll see it on the left after the main duty free liquor and perfume section, before most gates. It’s a small, glass-fronted shop focused on fine jewelry and watches rather than souvenirs or liquor.
The store leans heavily into emeralds and other gemstones, with pieces typically starting around US$150–200 for smaller items and climbing quickly into the four‑figure range for larger stones and premium watch brands. Prices are in US dollars, and most cards are accepted. This is duty free, so you won’t pay local VAT, but that doesn’t make it “cheap” by any stretch.
Hours roughly track international departures, so Columbian Emeralds usually opens by the time the first big northbound flights check in and stays open until the last evening departure. If you have a 2–3 hour pre-flight buffer, you’ll almost certainly find it open; super early morning or very late delays are the main risk for a dark storefront.
Selection runs to earrings, rings, pendants, and mid-range to luxury watches; you won’t find basic travel accessories or snacks here. Staff are used to cruise and resort passengers connecting out of Saint Lucia, so expect polished sales pitches and “today-only” upgrade talk. If you’re serious about a piece, take a photo of the tag, compare to the brand’s US online price, and only then start negotiating.
Tip: If your UVF boarding time is within 30 minutes, skip a fresh appraisal; pick something clearly under your customs allowance so you’re not rushing paperwork at the gate.
