Automated people mover

Three-minute rides link the Main Terminal to all TPA airsides

SkyConnect is Tampa International Airport’s automated people mover tying the Main Terminal to the economy parking garage and the Consolidated Rental Car Center in about 3 minutes per segment. Trains depart every few minutes, so you rarely wait long before heading toward your airside shuttle or your car.

The line runs in a straight shot between three points: Main Terminal station in the center of TPA, the Economy Garage station on airport property, and the Consolidated Rental Car Center at the far end. If you’re going to or from rental cars from any airside, you always pass through the Main Terminal in the middle of the SkyConnect route.

SkyConnect operates as an automated, driverless system with level boarding and wide doors, built for rolling big suitcases and strollers straight on and off. Cars run on an elevated guideway separate from road traffic, so the ride time between the Main Terminal and the Rental Car Center stays around a few minutes even during peak roadway congestion on airport drives.

The Rental Car Center at the SkyConnect terminus consolidates most on-airport rental brands into one building, cutting out multiple shuttle buses that used to serve separate lots. From this end station, it’s a short indoor walk to the rental counters and car pickup levels, all under one roof instead of scattered around the airport perimeter.

From the Economy Garage station, SkyConnect links long-term parkers directly to the Main Terminal without needing any separate parking-lot shuttle. You park in the economy facility, load bags into the train at that station, then ride a single stop to the Main Terminal where you connect to your airside-specific shuttles for boarding gates.

Trains are free to ride for all passengers, meeters and greeters, and rental car customers, with no ticket or reservation needed at any time. Follow signs for “SkyConnect” from baggage claim or ticketing in the Main Terminal to reach the clearly marked station platforms.

One tip: if you’re catching a rental car after a late-night arrival, budget an extra 10–15 minutes after reaching the Main Terminal for the SkyConnect ride plus the indoor walk through the Consolidated Rental Car Center to your specific company’s desk and parking level.
