All rental car counters sit in a separate Rental Car Center

At Tampa International (TPA), every major rental brand runs out of the standalone Rental Car Center, not inside the Main Terminal. You reach it by taking the airport’s SkyConnect train from the Main Terminal station, which runs continuously throughout the day and night with short waits between trains.

From the Main Terminal, follow signs to “Rental Cars / SkyConnect” and ride the automated train a few minutes to the Rental Car Center stop. The SkyConnect route links only three points: Economy Parking, the Main Terminal, and the Rental Car Center, so there’s little chance of ending up in the wrong place as long as you board the train heading toward “Rental Car Center.”

Returning a car works in reverse: follow roadway signs for “Rental Car Center” as you approach TPA, then drop the vehicle at your company’s signed return area in the multi-level facility. From there, walk to the SkyConnect station on the same complex and ride the train back to the Main Terminal, where all airline check-in counters and security checkpoints sit on Level 3.

Budget at least 10–15 minutes for the Rental Car Center to Main Terminal transfer, including the short walk from your car counter to the SkyConnect platform and the train ride itself. If you prefer garage parking instead of a rental on future trips, note that TPA’s Economy Parking Garage is on the same SkyConnect line, one stop away from the Main Terminal in the opposite direction from the Rental Car Center.

Families with strollers or travelers with large suitcases can roll directly onto SkyConnect cars; there are no steps between the platform and train, and elevators connect each level of the Rental Car Center to the train station. One practical tip: on departure day, top off gas and return the car at least 45–60 minutes before boarding time to avoid cutting it close on the SkyConnect plus security.
