Main Terminal airside: Volaris VIP Lounge keeps things basic

Volaris VIP Lounge sits in the Main Terminal after security, serving Volaris passengers on domestic and international flights out of TIJ. It operates on the usual airline-lounge model: priority-cabin tickets, certain elite tiers, and paid entry at the desk when capacity allows. If you’re crossing via CBX, factor in the extra walk and passport control before you can reach the lounge in the main departures area.

This is a compact airline lounge, so think quick stop, not a long layover hangout. Seating tends to be standard lounge armchairs with small side tables, enough for a laptop and drink but not a full workstation. Power outlets in Mexican airports skew scarce, so expect to hunt for a wall plug and bring a multi-port USB charger if you carry several devices.

Food service at similar Mexican domestic lounges usually means cold snacks and a light buffet: simple sandwiches, packaged snacks, and maybe one or two hot items around core mealtimes. Don’t count on a full restaurant menu; if you need a real meal before a late-night Volaris departure after 21:00, you’re better off eating in the public restaurant area downstairs in the Main Terminal and using the lounge mainly for drinks and seating.

Alcohol in airline lounges at TIJ generally includes local beer, basic spirits, and house wine, typically self-serve or poured by an attendant behind a counter. Expect standard brands rather than premium labels. If you like craft beer or specific tequila, the bar options in the public Main Terminal concourse may suit you better, then you can head into the Volaris VIP Lounge closer to your boarding time.

Restrooms in Mexican domestic lounges are often inside the lounge footprint, which saves a walk back into the terminal, but shower access is rarely part of the package at airports on TIJ’s scale. If you’re coming off a long bus or car ride from San Diego toward the CBX facility, plan to freshen up at your hotel or at home; treat this lounge as a cleaner, quieter waiting room near your gate instead of a full-service transit stop.

One practical tip: TIJ security plus passport control from CBX can run 30–45 minutes in peaks, so don’t buy lounge access expecting a long stay; clear formalities first, get your gate, then decide at the Main Terminal departures level if the Volaris VIP Lounge is worth the extra pesos for the time you actually have.
