Bank cards get you into VIPort Lounge at TIJ

In Tijuana’s Main Terminal, VIPort Lounge sits airside after security, and many Mexican bank cards grant complimentary or discounted entry, so check your card perks before you pay at the door. It’s a useful option if you’re flying Aeroméxico, Volaris or another carrier from the Main Terminal and want a calmer seat than the gate area.

The lounge operates roughly from early-morning first departures to late-evening flights, tracking Main Terminal schedules that often start before 06:00 and run past 22:00. If you have a crack-of-dawn run up to Mexico City or a late return from Guadalajara, this lounge usually matches those windows better than most coffee stands outside.

VIPort Lounge sits in the Main Terminal rather than the CBX facility, so CBX cross-border passengers using the dedicated CBX terminal can’t just pop in without exiting and re-clearing security. If your boarding pass shows CBX gates only, plan to use CBX-side seating and food instead of trekking to the Main Terminal lounge.

Access typically runs on a per-visit fee in the USD $30–$40 range or via bank cards that partner with Mexican lounge networks like Priority Pass and LoungeKey, which both list TIJ coverage. If you’re paying cash, compare that against a sit-down meal airside, where a basic restaurant tab with a drink can pass 300–400 MXN quickly.

Expect the usual self-serve snacks and soft drinks that Priority Pass–style lounges in Mexico provide, with beer and simple mixed drinks often included and stronger options sometimes upcharged around 80–120 MXN. Don’t count on full restaurant service or made-to-order hot plates the way you’d see at a flagship hub lounge in Mexico City or Guadalajara.

Seating at TIJ lounges tends to be mostly standard armchairs and small tables, with power outlets that can be hit-or-miss by seat; bring a 2‑meter cable, since wall sockets may sit behind shared columns. Wi‑Fi is typically faster than the free terminal network, enough for streaming and VPN work calls in the 10–30 Mbps range.

For a CBX connection, remember that CBX and the Main Terminal function like separate zones, with an extra walk and immigration/security steps between them that add at least 20–30 minutes. If your layover via CBX runs under 90 minutes gate-to-gate, skip VIPort Lounge and head straight for your next checkpoint instead.

One practical tip: TIJ security queues spike around Volaris bank departures between roughly 05:00–08:00 and again near 18:00–21:00, so clear security first, then walk directly to VIPort Lounge and set an alarm for 45 minutes before boarding.
