Known city brand with metered cars at SGN’s T1 and T2
Mai Linh Taxi runs metered sedans right outside T1 (domestic) and T2 (international) arrivals at Tan Son Nhat. It’s one of the big, recognizable Ho Chi Minh City taxi brands, so many flyers pick it over random curbside cars after landing at SGN.
You’ll find the Mai Linh line on the ground floor arrivals curb, just outside the doors marked for taxis at both T1 and T2. Fares into central District 1 from SGN usually land around 120,000–180,000 VND depending on traffic and your exact hotel, all shown on the meter in the front.
Cars are standard four-door sedans or small MPVs, fine for 2–3 people with luggage; bigger groups with more than 3 checked-size bags may need two taxis. Drivers generally speak basic English for addresses, so have your hotel name in writing plus the Vietnamese address line as shown on Booking.com or Google Maps.
Pay in cash in Vietnamese dong; most Mai Linh drivers at SGN don’t use card terminals. For a 150,000 VND ride, people usually round up to 170,000–180,000 VND as a small tip. Have at least 200,000–300,000 VND in small notes ready before you exit T2 customs or the T1 baggage hall.
Arrivals taxi management at SGN gets a lot of complaints on forums, including Tripadvisor threads about chaos on the curb. That affects all brands using the line, including Mai Linh, so add 15–20 minutes to your time budget from “exit customs” to “actually moving in a taxi,” especially at evening peaks between 18:00 and 21:00.
Watch out for unmarked drivers trying to steer you away from the official taxi queue as you leave T1 or T2; stick to green Mai Linh cars with clear logos and a working meter on the dashboard. If a driver refuses to switch on the meter or quotes a flat price like 300,000–400,000 VND into District 1, just step out and join the next car in line.
One practical tip: before you exit T2 customs, connect to the free airport Wi‑Fi, pull up your hotel on Google Maps, and screenshot the address and map; showing that to the Mai Linh driver usually gets you from SGN to District 1 without any drama.
