Intercity bus

Direct SGN–Vung Tau link beats a detour into District 1

Airport–Vung Tau Coach runs straight from Tan Son Nhat (SGN) to Vung Tau, skipping the 7–10 km ride into central Ho Chi Minh City. This is an intercity coach service, not a city bus, and it targets the roughly 95 km route to Vung Tau in one shot. If your end point is Vung Tau, this usually beats piecing together a Grab into town plus a separate coach from Mien Dong or another city terminal.

Services typically operate from morning into evening, with several departures spaced a few hours apart on the SGN–Vung Tau corridor. Expect total travel time in the 2–2.5 hour range depending on traffic on QL51 and approach roads into Ba Ria–Vung Tau. The coach is a standard air-conditioned intercity bus, not a limousine van, so think fixed seats and luggage in a dedicated compartment rather than overhead racks only.

At Tan Son Nhat, Airport–Vung Tau Coach boarding is landside, outside the terminal buildings, so you exit T1 or T2 first and then find the coach pick-up point at ground level. Build at least a 30–45 minute buffer from scheduled landing to coach departure for immigration and baggage at T2, or 20–30 minutes from a domestic arrival in T1. If you miss a departure, you may be waiting an hour or more for the next bus on quieter days.

Ticket prices sit in the typical intercity range for a 95 km run, usually higher than a city bus but lower than a private car or taxi doing the same route. You can often buy tickets at a small counter or kiosk near arrivals, or directly from staff by the coach, cash in VND only. Keep at least 200,000–300,000 VND on hand to cover a one-way fare plus a small margin, as card terminals are hit or miss.

The coach drops you at a fixed stop in Vung Tau city, commonly near major streets such as Le Hong Phong or a central bus point, not door-to-door at your hotel. In most cases, the last leg is a 5–15 minute taxi or ride-hail ride to your exact address. If you land in SGN after 20:00, double-check same-day coach availability, and if you land in T3 in the future once it opens, confirm which curbside zone Airport–Vung Tau Coach uses before you fly.

Tip: Screenshot the words “Vung Tau” and “Tan Son Nhat” in Vietnamese plus a map pin before you land, then show that to airport staff or taxi drivers if you need help finding the Airport–Vung Tau Coach boarding point.
