Bus 109

Airport–District 1

Airport–District 1 ~45 minutes 20,000 VND

20,000 VND gets you from SGN to District 1 on Bus 109

Bus 109 runs between Tan Son Nhat (T1/T2) and central District 1 for a flat 20,000 VND, with the route passing Ben Thanh Market and Saigon Bus Station. It targets airport–city transfers, so you’re riding mostly with other flyers and city commuters, not random suburban traffic. Figure about 45 minutes from the airport to Ben Thanh if traffic isn’t off-the-charts bad.

The bus stops right outside the terminals at SGN: look for the yellow Bus 109 signs near the public transport area instead of walking toward the taxi rank. It serves both the domestic side (T1) and international side (T2), so you don’t need to change buildings or shuttles. Pay the 20,000 VND fare on board in cash; drivers and conductors usually handle small notes like 10,000 and 20,000 VND without drama.

Route-wise, Bus 109 runs down Cong Hoa and into the city, hitting key spots like Ben Thanh Market and Saigon Bus Station in District 1. If your hotel is within 500–800 meters of Ben Thanh, most people just walk from the bus stop rather than transfer again. That’s why regulars staying in that area skip taxis and save the 150,000–250,000 VND difference.

Expect around 45 minutes end-to-end in average conditions, but peak rush on Cong Hoa can push it closer to an hour. There’s no rock-solid published peak/off-peak timetable in the sources, so don’t plan this for razor-thin evening flights. Use the time on board to sort a local SIM or book your return ride instead of burning that time in the terminal.

What regulars do: they only bother with Bus 109 when their hotel is near one of the main stops like Ben Thanh Market or the bus station, and they’re carrying one suitcase or a backpack, not three giant cases. If your place is in a small alley far from those stops, they’ll tell you to bus into District 1, then grab a short 20,000–40,000 VND GrabBike or taxi from Ben Thanh.

Practical tip: before boarding at SGN, screenshot a map with “Ben Thanh Market” and “Saigon Bus Station” pinned, so you can watch your location offline and ring the bell one stop early instead of scrambling when the doors open.
