Gate-side grill in T1 for a hot made-to-order meal
Mongolian Barbecue sits airside in Terminal T1, one of the few spots at Yangon International where you can get a freshly cooked stir-fry instead of a pre-wrapped sandwich. It’s in the main departures area after security, so you don’t have to commit to a specific gate to eat here. Signage just says “Mongolian Barbecue,” and the setup is the familiar grill counter with seating nearby.
Food here centers on pick-your-ingredients bowls cooked on the flat-top grill, so you actually see your meal prepared in front of you. Expect basic proteins, vegetables, and noodles or rice, closer to a mall food-court Mongolian grill than anything strictly regional. Reviews are thin, but pricing at Yangon airport in T1 generally lands in the 5,000–10,000 MMK range for a hot dish, and this place tends to sit in that band or slightly above thanks to the custom-cook angle.
Hours track with T1’s international departure banks, so you’ll usually find it open from early-morning check-in waves to late-night flights, roughly 06:00 to 23:00. If you’re on one of the very late or very early regional runs, don’t bank on it for a meal and have a backup plan in T1’s smaller cafés. Service pace varies with how many people are in line at the grill; allow at least 20 minutes from joining the queue to taking your first bite when it’s busy.
There’s table seating directly beside the counter, fine for a quick meal before boarding announcements start for your flight. You won’t find alcohol lists or elaborate desserts here; think main-course stir-fries and soft drinks only. Bring small Myanmar kyat notes or be ready to tap a card, as some Yangon T1 outlets still have spotty card terminals and staff occasionally nudge cash for smaller bills.
Tip: If you’re tight on time in T1, order a simpler bowl with one protein and standard sauce; it hits the grill faster than custom multi-sauce mixes and gets you back to your gate in under 15–20 minutes.
