Footlongs in T1 when you just want something familiar

In Terminal T1 at PTY, Subway sits airside and feels like every other Subway you’ve seen, which is exactly the point on a long travel day. It’s one of the few international chains in this terminal, so people default here when they don’t feel like gambling on something new before a 6-hour flight.

Expect the usual Subway setup: 6-inch and footlong sandwiches built on the line, plus chips and fountain drinks. Prices run higher than downtown Panama City; think around USD $9–$12 for a basic footlong combo instead of the $7–$8 you might pay in town. It’s still cheaper than most sit-down options in T1, especially once you factor in drinks.

Bread types and fillings mirror the global menu, with turkey, ham, tuna, and veggie options almost always on hand, and steak or chicken sometimes selling out in the evening rush around the 18:00–21:00 bank of departures. If you like predictability, stick to a simple turkey or veggie on Italian; custom sauces can get heavy before a red-eye. Staff work quickly, but a short line can still mean 10–15 minutes if a big group walks up.

There’s basic seating nearby, but power outlets are scarce, and tables fill up fast during peak Copa departures from T1. Grab-and-go works well here: get your sandwich wrapped, add a bottled drink instead of the fountain cup, and eat at your gate. The bread smell lingers on clothes more than you’d think in humid Panama, so maybe skip the extra onions if you’re heading into a cramped 737.

Tip: order a 6-inch now and keep the second 6-inch wrapped for a backup meal mid-flight; it usually holds up fine on a 5–7 hour segment out of PTY.
