Gate-side caffeine stop in T1 with basic snacks
Cafe Maritano's sits airside in Terminal T1 at Tocumen, used by Copa and many international carriers, so you pass it on a lot of connections. Think quick counter service: coffee, bottled drinks, pastries, and a few pre-made sandwiches. It’s more of a grab-and-go stand than a sit-down restaurant, useful if your boarding pass says Group 3 and you’ve got 15 minutes to spare.
Hours track the morning bank of flights in T1, so expect it open by around 05:00 and running into the late evening while long-haul departures clear. Because it’s inside security, you can swing by after immigration on arrivals that connect onward. Seating is limited to a handful of small tables in the gate area nearby, so plan on carrying your food back to your gate.
Prices run in typical airport territory: figure around USD 3–4 for basic coffee, USD 4–6 for pastries, and USD 7–10 for sandwiches and packaged snacks. Payment usually works fine with credit cards issued outside Panama, and receipts show pricing in dollars since PTY uses USD day-to-day. Water and soft drinks cost more than in Panama City supermarkets, but less than what you’d see at many US hubs.
Menu depth is modest, so don’t expect hot plated meals or anything regional like sancocho; this is more croissants, muffins, and simple ham-and-cheese sandwiches. If you want something more substantial in T1, you’re better off walking a few gates to one of the full-service restaurants or fast-food chains that serve burgers or rice dishes. Use Cafe Maritano's mainly for caffeine and a quick bite between tight Copa connections.
Tip: lines spike around the 06:00–08:00 and 18:00–20:00 departure banks in T1, so grab your coffee 20–30 minutes before those waves hit rather than five minutes before boarding.
