Gate-side fried chicken fix in T1 domestic area
Red Rooster sits airside in Gold Coast Airport’s T1 domestic departures, a few minutes’ walk from most Jetstar and Virgin Australia gates. It’s one of the few spots in the terminal doing full hot meals rather than just sandwiches and pastries. You order at the counter, wait for your tray, then hunt for shared seating in the general food court area.
Core menu is the usual Red Rooster setup: roast or fried chicken pieces, burgers, wraps, chips, and gravy, with most mains landing around the AUD $10–$16 mark. The classic quarter chicken and chips combo is often the best value if you want something filling before a 2–3 hour hop to Sydney or Melbourne. Portions run generous compared with some other T1 options, especially on the chips.
Drinks include post-mix soft drinks, bottled water, and the usual fast-food milkshakes, typically around $4–$6 depending on size. Kids’ meals with smaller chicken pieces or nuggets plus chips and a drink usually come in under $10, which can be cheaper than grabbing separate snacks from nearby cafes. Expect standard Australian fast-food coffee from the machine rather than barista shots.
Hours track the domestic schedule, with shutters usually up from early-morning departures around 5:30–6:00 a.m. through the late-night bank that can run past 9:00 p.m. on busy days. During the 7:30–9:00 a.m. and 4:30–7:00 p.m. waves, lines can stretch 10–15 minutes, and seating in the shared area can be tight.
One practical tip: if your gate is near the lower-numbered domestic gates, order a takeaway bag and walk it down to the quieter seating near the end of the pier; it’s easier to find a spare chair there than in the central food court beside Red Rooster.
