Rental facility

Most rental car parking sits just outside T1, T2, and T3

Rental car parking at Narita International Airport sits in dedicated lots beside all three terminals (T1, T2, and T3), so you’re not dragging bags across general parking decks. Each major brand has its own clearly signed section, and you’ll usually check in at the counter first, then walk 1–3 minutes to the assigned bay. Spaces are standard Japanese-size, a bit tighter than US lots, but still fine for compact and mid-size cars.

Most rental desks operate roughly 07:00–21:00, with shorter hours than the 24/7 flight schedule, so late-night arrivals into T1 or T2 can’t always pick up cars immediately. Cars return to the same rental car parking area they left from, with staff scanning the vehicle and checking fuel before you head to the terminal. Expect a 5–10 minute walk or shuttle ride between the lot and your check-in counters, depending on which side of T1 or T2 you use.

Pricing isn’t hourly like normal airport parking; you pay your rental company directly, usually in 24-hour blocks. In most contracts, toll transponders for the nearby Higashi-Kanto Expressway and Keiyo Road add a separate per-use fee, not a parking charge. If you started your rental downtown and return it at NRT, one-way drop fees apply at the on-airport rental car parking, which is clearly marked on contracts in yen.

For pick-up, staff usually walk you to the exact bay number, show you any existing dings on a tablet, and photograph the odometer before you drive out of the rental car parking exit gate. For returns, follow “Rental Car Return” signs from the T1, T2, or T3 access roads rather than your phone’s GPS; missing a turn can add a 10–15 minute loop on Narita’s ring roads.

Tip: Landing after 20:00? Call your chosen T1, T2, or T3 rental desk in advance and confirm their closing time so you’re not stuck arranging a hotel shuttle instead of using the on-airport rental car parking that night.
