Terminal 1 has one reliable espresso bar: Illy Caffè.
In MXP T1, this is the branded Illy counter the coffee people hunt down when the generic bars look sketchy. The airport directory lists it as “Illy Caffè – Terminal 1,” and reviews keep calling out the espresso shot as cleaner and more consistent than elsewhere in the terminal. Expect a solid Italian bar setup: espresso, cappuccino, and a few small pastries lined up for quick grabs at breakfast.
Pricing sits in the $$ airport bracket: more than a city-center Illy, but not insane for an international terminal. Think a clear step up from vending-machine coffee, with a slight premium for the logo and location. One regular summed it up as “not cheap but at least the coffee is reliably good,” which fits the 3-star average rating you’ll see on Google.
Mornings in T1 are rough here. Multiple reviews mention crowds and “a bit of a scrum at the counter” during early departures, especially around the 06:30–09:00 bank of flights. Seating is limited, a few stools and small tables at best, so most people end up at the bar. If you’re hauling a rollaboard and backpack, be ready to park them out of the way while you order.
Regulars skip the wait for a table and do it the Italian way: order straight at the bar, drink standing, and clear out in under 5 minutes. Common play is a single espresso or cappuccino plus one pastry as a quick T1 breakfast before security calls a final boarding. If you hate lines, aim for a stop after the main rush or between mid-morning flights when the boarding screens for long-haul banks calm down.
Tip: If your gate in T1 is more than a 10-minute walk, order, drink at the counter, and leave immediately; this is not a linger-with-a-laptop kind of coffee stop.
