Espresso at the counter in T1, not a sit-down café
In Terminal 1, Bar Motta runs like a classic Italian standing bar: counter-service only, grab your espresso or cappuccino, then move. It’s the faster, leaner sibling to Motta Milano 1928 in the same terminal, with the focus on quick shots of coffee rather than full café lingering. Figure typical airport pricing in the $$ range and very little true seating.
You’ll find it airside in T1 among the main bars/restaurants, so it works for Schengen departures once you clear security. Regulars walk straight up, order a standard espresso or cappuccino, pay, knock it back at the counter, and leave in under five minutes. That’s the move if you just want caffeine before a 7:30 flight to FCO or CDG.
Quality tracks with its 3-star reputation: coffee is fine, not destination-worthy, but better than the vending-style spots around some gates. Expect basic pastries and snacks alongside the drinks, at prices a few euros higher than downtown Milan. One reviewer notes it’s “cheaper than sitting down at some of the other places, but still airport prices,” which about sums it up.
Watch out for the 7:00–8:00 rush when commuters pile in before morning departures. Reviews talk about people elbowing for space at the counter and a confusing, non-linear queue; you’ll need to speak up to get served. If you hate that chaos, aim for off-peak times or skip it and walk to another T1 option with actual tables.
Tip: have your order and cash or card ready before you reach the bar, say “un espresso” or “un cappuccino” clearly, pay immediately, drink at the counter, then clear out so the next person can squeeze in.
