Illy Café sits airside in Terminal T1 at Montevideo’s Carrasco Airport, a short walk from several international gates. It runs from early morning through late evening to catch the first departures and the last arrivals. If you need a proper coffee before an 06:00 flight, this is one of the few spots open in time.
The draw here is the espresso bar using Illy beans, with standards like espresso, cappuccino, and latte. Expect airport pricing: a simple espresso usually lands in the mid-range for MVD, higher than town but not outrageous for airside. If you care about milk texture, watch the barista; some are more precise than others, and it shows in the cappuccino foam.
Food is mostly quick bites: pre-made sandwiches, pastries, and small snacks. You’ll see croissants, medialunas, and packaged sweets stacked in the case. Portions run on the modest side, so don’t rely on this as a full meal before an 11-hour long-haul. For something more filling, grab a sandwich and a pastry together and expect to pay more than you would in central Montevideo, but still within typical airport range.
Service style is counter-order with pay-before-you-sip. At peak times around 07:00–09:00 and again near the evening bank of flights, lines form but usually clear within 5–10 minutes. Seating is limited to a few tables and stools, so many people grab their drink in a paper cup and head back toward the gate areas near the mid-40s gates.
Cards are widely accepted, including international credit cards, and prices are displayed in Uruguayan pesos. Tipping is not expected for a simple coffee at the bar. One simple tip: if you care about heat, ask for your drink “bien caliente” when you order; it helps avoid a lukewarm latte on a tight 30-minute boarding window.
