Gate A-side in Terminal A, La Oriental is your fast taco stop
Right in Terminal A at Monterrey (MTY), La Oriental runs on a quick-service model that works for 30–45 minute waits at the gate. It’s landside/post-check-in inside A, so you can grab food after security without hiking to another terminal. Think classic taquería menu: tacos, quesadillas, and tortas with local-style fillings instead of generic airport burgers.
Most tacos sit in the MX$45–70 range, so a basic plate plus a soft drink lands around MX$150–200. Portions lean small by US standards, closer to street-taco size, so plan on three tacos if you’re actually hungry before a 2–3 hour flight. Prices are higher than city locations, but still under what you’ll pay at many airport chains in A or B.
Focus on the tacos al pastor and carne asada, which rotate quickly during peak morning and evening bank times for the big Aeroméxico and Volaris departures. Fresh tortillas and meat off the trompo beat the pre-wrapped sandwiches you’ll see in coolers near gates A3–A8. Skip anything that looks like it’s been under a heat lamp too long; turnover slows in the mid-afternoon lull between about 13:00 and 16:00.
Service is counter-order with your name called, and a basic salsa bar usually includes at least two salsas plus lime wedges. That salsa bar saves you from the tiny sauce packets you get at some other Terminal A spots. Most people pay by card; terminals handle foreign Visa and Mastercard fine, but it’s handy to have a MX$100 note in case the machine acts up right before boarding.
Tip: order to-go and ask for extra napkins; A’s seating near gates A6–A10 fills quickly during morning departures, so eating from a tray in the main corridor is often easier than hunting for a table.
