Terminal A sit-down option before security: La Casa de los Abuelos

In Terminal A, La Casa de los Abuelos gives you a full-service Mexican restaurant instead of fast food, with table service that usually runs 30–45 minutes from sit-down to bill. It sits landside, so it works best if you’re checking bags at MTY and want a proper meal before heading through security. Expect a family-restaurant feel, with big group tables and TVs running fútbol most of the day.

Menu pricing falls into mid-range airport territory: around 160–220 MXN for chilaquiles or enfrijoladas at breakfast, and 200–350 MXN for mains like enchiladas, milanesa, or fajitas later in the day. Portions skew large, so one main can easily cover you for a 2–3 hour flight out of Terminal A. Coffee, aguas frescas, and soft drinks usually land in the 40–70 MXN range, with domestic beers a bit higher.

Hours typically track morning bank flights from MTY, opening by the first wave around 06:00 and staying open into the late evening departures after 21:00. That makes it workable for a pre-7 a.m. departure or a late return when some smaller stands have already closed. If you’re on an early Aeroméxico or Viva Aerobus flight from A, you can eat here, clear security, and still be at most A-gates in 10–15 minutes.

Food leans classic northern Mexican: think eggs a la Mexicana, chilaquiles rojos or verdes, tacos, and grilled meats, not experimental twists. If you’re hungry, go for a plate like fajitas or enchiladas; if you just need a snack between meetings, split an appetizer and stick to drinks. Service pace can slow during the 07:00–09:00 and 18:00–20:00 rushes, especially when multiple international flights out of Terminal A overlap.

Tip: If your boarding pass says Terminal B or C, eat after security instead; walking back from La Casa de los Abuelos on A-side to clear security again into another terminal can add 20–30 minutes to your schedule.
