5-minute TER train hop between MRS and Vitrolles station

The regional TER train links Marseille Provence Airport with Vitrolles Aéroport Marseille Provence station in about 5 minutes. From there, you connect into the wider TER network for Marseille Saint-Charles, Miramas, Arles, and beyond. The airport side is served by a dedicated shuttle bus to T1 and T2, timed around the train schedule.

A single TER ticket from the airport station to Marseille Saint-Charles usually starts around the low single digits, but the shuttle between the airport and Vitrolles station itself runs at about EUR 1.20. You buy tickets from SNCF machines at Vitrolles Aéroport Marseille Provence station or via the SNCF Connect app before you reach MRS.

There are up to 73 TER trains daily serving Vitrolles Aéroport Marseille Provence, spread from early morning into the evening. Trains to Marseille Saint-Charles typically run at regular intervals, so you often wait less than 30 minutes, but check the exact timetable if you’re landing late or flying out on a very early departure from T1 or T2.

The shuttle bus between the airport terminals and Vitrolles station usually takes about 5–10 minutes, depending on traffic on the airport access road. It stops outside both T1 and T2, so you do not need to walk between terminals. Keep your train ticket handy, as the shuttle is part of the same airport–station connection setup.

Ticket machines at Vitrolles station accept cards and coins, but some travelers report less luck with non-European cards on other parts of the SNCF network. If you’re tight on time, buy via the SNCF Connect app as soon as you land at MRS or before you leave home, then just validate or show the QR code on board.

Trains can be busy during weekday rush hours toward Marseille and on Sunday evenings toward the coast. If you’re carrying large checked bags from a long-haul arrival into T1, aim for off-peak departures listed outside the 07:30–09:00 and 17:00–19:00 slots when possible.

Practical tip: Build a 20–25 minute buffer from terminal exit to station departure time to cover shuttle wait, ticket purchase, and a quick walk, then target a TER that gets you to Marseille Saint-Charles at least 90 minutes before an intra-Schengen flight or 2 hours before non-Schengen out of MRS on your way back.

Step by step

  1. 01 Purchase your ticket online or at the airport vending machines.
  2. 02 Take the shuttle from the airport to the Vitrolles train station.
  3. 03 Board the TER train to your desired destination.
Watch out for
  • Not allowing enough time for connections.
  • Forgetting to validate your ticket before boarding.
