15–30 minutes from central Marseille to MRS by taxi

From Marseille’s Vieux-Port area, Taxi Marseille Provence usually runs about 15–30 minutes to the airport in light traffic, and closer to 35–40 minutes in rush hour on the A7. Taxis drop you directly outside Terminals T1 and T2, so you’re at check-in within a minute or two of stepping out of the car.

There’s no flat city–airport rate, so expect to pay roughly €45–€60 from central Marseille to Marseille Provence Airport, depending on traffic, time of day, and luggage. Night and Sunday/public holiday surcharges apply under French taxi rules, so late arrivals after 19:00 or early-morning departures before 07:00 tend to sit at the upper end of that range.

Taxi ranks sit just outside the arrivals areas of both T1 and T2; you follow the “Taxis” signs after baggage claim for about 2–3 minutes on foot. At peak times when several flights land together, queues can build and some reviewers describe the curbside scene as chaotic, with 15–30 minute waits not unusual around the 09:00–11:00 and 17:00–20:00 banks.

You can usually grab a metered taxi directly from the official rank without prebooking, but if you’re landing after 23:00 it’s smart to reserve by phone or app at least 30–60 minutes before arrival. For departures from Marseille city, many hotels will call a taxi for you; ask them to order pickup 2 hours before an intra-Schengen flight or 2.5–3 hours before a non-Schengen flight, factoring in that 20–30 minute ride.

Disorganized ground traffic at MRS means drivers sometimes loop around the terminal roads more than once, especially at T1. Check that the meter starts at the official Marseille taxi base fare (usually under €5) and that luggage and airport supplements appear as fixed line items, not random add-ons. Paying by card is possible in most cabs, but some still prefer cash; clarify payment method before you set off.

  • Step 1: At baggage claim in T1 or T2, follow the black “Sortie / Exit” and “Taxis” signs for about 150–200 meters.
  • Step 2: Join the marked taxi queue outside your terminal; if a dispatcher is present, tell them your destination (e.g., “Marseille Vieux-Port”).
  • Step 3: Before getting in, confirm that the taxi is licensed (roof light, meter, and official badge) and ask for an approximate price range to your address.
  • Step 4: Check that the meter is running as you leave the curb and that any supplements for airport pickup or extra bags are visible on the display.
  • Step 5: On arrival, keep your printed or SMS receipt; it can help if you forget an item in the cab or need the fare for expense claims.

Practical tip: Screenshot your hotel or address with postcode (for example, “13001 Marseille”) before you land so you can show it to the driver in case of language gaps at the T1 or T2 rank.
