Desk sits in Terminal 1 arrivals, just past baggage claim
Hertz at Malmö Sturup (MMX) runs out of Terminal 1, right in the compact arrivals hall, so you’re at the counter within 3–5 minutes of leaving passport control. The airport is small, and Hertz shares the rental row with a couple of other brands, so you won’t walk more than 50–60 meters to reach it. Signage for “Biluthyrning / Car Rental” points you straight there.
Cars are parked in the main rental lot opposite Terminal 1, roughly a 2–3 minute walk from the counter under cover for part of the way. Most contracts here are mileage-unlimited within Sweden, but one-way drops to places like Copenhagen or Stockholm can add a noticeable fee, so ask before you sign. Expect compact manuals as the default; automatics and SUVs cost extra and are limited during summer and school holidays.
The counter generally follows airport hours, with staff around scheduled arrivals, and they often close between the late evening and the first morning wave, especially on quieter days. Out-of-hours pickup or drop-off usually uses a key box by the Hertz desk or at the lot door; check exact times on your confirmation, as MMX isn’t a 24/7 operation. Fuel is pay-on-return if you skip refueling, but the surcharge per liter is higher than the Statoil/ Circle K station about 5–6 km toward Malmö.
One practical tip: photograph the car in the rental lot at MMX from all four corners plus wheels and windshield before driving off; it’s quick proof of pre-existing marks when you return on a tight turnaround before your Terminal 1 flight home.
