FONDO DE CULTURA ECONOMICO

Books, magazines and music

T2 · 38 AND 39 Open · MONDAY-SATURDAY 7:00 TO 22:00 HRS. SUNDAY 08:00 TO 21:00 HRS.

Between gates 38 and 39 in T2, this is the airport’s serious bookshop, not just a rack of bestsellers.

Fondo de Cultura Económico in Terminal T2 sits right by gates 38 and 39, post-security on the AMLO wing of the building. Hours run Monday to Saturday from 07:00 to 22:00, and Sundays from 08:00 to 21:00, so it’s open for most Aeroméxico banks. This is a proper bookstore focusing on Spanish-language titles, with shelves of literature, non-fiction and children’s books, plus magazines and some music CDs and vinyl.

Prices sit below the usual “airport tax”: paperbacks often land in the 200–350 MXN range, and you’ll see local Mexican authors that never make it to the Hudson at T1. Magazine racks cover national titles like Proceso and Gatopardo alongside mainstream glossies. Music runs niche: expect more Latin American catalog and classical than Top 40. If you only have 10–15 minutes before boarding at gate 38, you can still grab a novel and a magazine without feeling rushed.

Stock skews heavily to Spanish, and English-language options are limited to a small section that may be just a single shelf. If you want an English thriller, you may strike out; if you want Octavio Paz or Elena Poniatowska in Spanish, you’re set. Staff usually ring you up in under 2–3 minutes, but browsing can suck 30 minutes if your layover is long. Tip: buy here instead of at gate newsstands; the selection is better and the books survive a 4–6 hour flight without falling apart.
