Departures Public Car Park

MBJ has literally posted: “Departures Car Park is temporarily closed.”

Daily rates sit at $1,000 JMD for 3–24 hours, but that only matters when the Departures Public Car Park next to T1 is actually open. The lot is a 1‑minute walk to the Departures doors, built as the quick option for short stays and long‑stay drop‑offs right by check‑in.

Standard MBJ pricing applies here: $250 JMD per hour, $750 up to 3 hours, $1,000 for 3–24 hours, then $1,000 per extra 24 hours. There’s no special Departures discount. Treat it as the same tariff as the main terminal public parking, just on the Departures side of T1.

When MBJ’s own update says the lot is closed, airport guides say drivers get stuck circling the terminal and then end up in the Arrivals Public Car Park anyway. The airport’s post explicitly directs all parking, including overnight, to Arrivals for the closure period, so don’t bank on Departures being usable on any given day.

On normal days, the Departures car park functions as a long‑stay lot, but regulars treat it like a short‑stay pad: drop someone at T1 Departures, walk them in, then get back to the car in under 3 hours for $750 JMD. For full‑day waits or trips of several days, they switch to Arrivals parking if there’s any doubt about Departures access.

Pay stations are a small gotcha. MBJ’s guides list machines in Arrivals, Departures (Door 4), and the public car park itself. Even if you park at Departures, you may end up walking over to a nearby pay point, then have to exit the barrier within about 15 minutes or your ticket clocks a new interval.

Practical tip: before driving in, check the latest MBJ parking notice or social feed; if there’s any mention of the Departures Public Car Park being closed, skip the upper loop and head straight to the Arrivals Public Car Park to save one full lap of the terminal.
