Newsstand Kiosk

Gate-side candy stop in Terminal 1

This is the tiny Newsstand Kiosk in Terminal 1 at El Alto (LPB), the one TripAdvisor folks mention as “very small” with mostly candy and soda. Think single counter, not a full shop. It sits airside after security, so you can grab something right before boarding without doubling back through the checkpoint.

Stock is basic: packets of candy, chocolate bars, chips, and bottled soft drinks and water, usually in the 10–25 BOB range depending on brand and size. Don’t expect magazines, books, headphones, or plug adapters despite the “newsstand” name; multiple posters call out the lack of real reading material or travel gear. If you need anything more than snacks and soda, buy it in La Paz city before heading up to the airport.

Opening hours loosely track the flight banks, with the kiosk typically open in the early-morning departure window (around 03:00–07:00) and again for daytime and evening flights. It can be closed between waves, especially midday when there are fewer departures from Terminal 1. Bring small bills in bolivianos; change on larger notes (like 100 BOB) isn’t always guaranteed.

Watch out for: stock can run low before the last departures of the day, so don’t count on a specific drink flavor or brand-name chocolate late at night. One practical tip: buy your water here after security instead of landside, so you clear the liquids check with an empty bottle and still have something for the 45–60 minute hop to regional cities.
