Terminal T1 hosts 8 airlines. It's TAP Air Portugal's home turf at LIS. You'll find 20 dining options, 7 lounges, 24 shops here.
All arrivals at LIS still dump into Terminal 1
Every inbound flight at Humberto Delgado Airport, from TAP Air Portugal to Emirates, funnels through Terminal 1, even if your low-cost departure later uses T2. T1 also handles almost all full-service departures, including Lufthansa, Air France, British Airways, KLM, Swiss, and United. If you’re booking tight connections, assume you touch T1 at least once each way.
Layout and moving between T1 and T2
Terminal 1 sits on the main terminal complex, with security feeding into both Schengen and non-Schengen gate areas from a single check-in hall. Terminal 2, used by budget carriers, connects via a shuttle that starts from T1; build at least 20–30 minutes if you have to switch terminals. All arrivals, even from T2 departures, still come back through baggage claim and customs in T1.
Check-in, security, and fast track
TAP Air Portugal runs a big check-in footprint in T1, sharing the hall with other legacy carriers like British Airways and KLM along the same level as departures. Security for T1 can back up at morning banks around 06:00–09:00, so aim to be upstairs 2 hours before intra-Europe flights and closer to 3 hours for long-haul on Emirates or United. A Fast Track lane feeds the same checkpoint and ties into the Fast Track Lounge Area airside.
Main restaurants and what to eat
On the airside concourse, Burger King, KFC, McDonald’s, and Pizza Hut cover the usual chain cravings, with prices a few euros higher than in central Lisbon. For local flavor, Versailles and O Mercado both sit inside T1 and serve Portuguese-style dishes and pastries; Versailles is where you go for a pastel and a bica before a TAP morning push. Go Natural offers lighter options like salads and sandwiches if you want something non-fried before a 3-hour hop to Germany or France.
Coffee, pastries, and quick sugar hits
Starbucks and Paul sit near the busier gate corridors, and a latte can easily run €4–5. For more local coffee, Delta Café Central and Delta – Mundo do Café both pour the standard Portuguese espresso inside T1, usually cheaper than the green mermaid. Dots Bakery and Confeitaria Peixinho add doughnuts and traditional sweets you can grab in under 5 minutes between security and boarding.
Lounges in Terminal 1
T1 carries the full lounge cluster: ANA Lounge, TAP Premium Lounge, Blue Lounge, CIP Lounge, SATA Azores Lounge, the ABC Airport Business Center Lounge, plus the Fast Track Lounge Area. TAP Premium Lounge mainly serves TAP and Star Alliance premium passengers, while ANA Lounge is the generic contract option many cards and programs feed into. If you fly United in the afternoon bank to the US, that TAP Premium Lounge access is worth timing your arrival at least 90 minutes before departure.
Shopping and last-minute buys
The Duty Free Store spreads across a central section immediately after security in T1, so you walk through it on the way to Schengen and non-Schengen gates. Fashion labels like Calvin Klein, Carolina Herrera, and Parfois sit on the same level, along with Benfica for team gear and Chilli Beans for sunglasses. Fnac stocks headphones and cables if your gear fails between a Lufthansa inbound and an Emirates overnight connection.
Souvenirs and local products
Ale-Hop and Artesanato do Aeroporto sell tourist souvenirs and Portuguese-themed gifts directly in the departures area of T1. Confeitaria Nacional inside the terminal sells boxed sweets that survive the flight better than fresh pastries from town. Cockpit carries travel gadgets and small accessories next to other specialty shops, handy if your adapter dies before a 7-hour transatlantic seat in economy.
What regulars do and one final tip
Frequent LIS flyers treat T1 as home base and only ride out to T2 for low-cost departures, since every arrival, including T2 flights, ends back at T1 baggage claim. They often clear immigration, grab a quick coffee at Delta Café Central, then head to TAP Premium Lounge, ANA Lounge, or Blue Lounge if there’s more than 60 minutes before boarding. If you land in T1 and connect from T2, walk straight out, follow the clearly signed T2 shuttle from the arrivals level, and pad your schedule by half an hour.
