SKA2

Train

Train 18-20 min (airport–Kraków Główny) $2

18–20 minutes from KRK to Kraków Główny, with extra suburban stops

SKA2 is the suburban train line from Terminal 1 at Kraków Airport that gets you to Kraków Główny in about 18–20 minutes, but then continues to the northern and eastern districts instead of stopping with the central crowd. Tickets run around $2 one way, so it undercuts most taxis by a long way if you are solo or a couple.

Trains run roughly every 30–60 minutes depending on time of day, with SKA2 timetables coordinated with SKA1 so the combined airport–city frequency is about every 30 minutes in the daytime and closer to 60 minutes early morning and late evening. Each line on its own can be less frequent, so if you miss an SKA2, you may wait half an hour for the next one.

The airport station sits just beyond Terminal 1, a short signed walk of around 5 minutes from arrivals, with platforms clearly marked for SKA1, SKA2 and occasional REGIO services. Both SKA1 and SKA2 show “Kraków Główny” on the destination boards when heading into town; after that, SKA2 carries on towards further suburban stops that suit some northern and eastern neighbourhoods.

Standard single tickets to Kraków Główny or the suburban stops on SKA2 cost about $2, sold from ticket machines on the platform and in the station building, and sometimes from conductors on board. Machines accept cards, coins, and often notes, but have a habit of timing out, so buy as soon as you reach the platform rather than as the train rolls in.

Locals on Kraków forums say they largely ignore the SKA1 vs SKA2 branding and just board the next airport train that lists “Kraków Główny” as a stop, then change there for tram lines 3, 18, 20 and multiple bus routes. If your hotel is closer to one of SKA2’s later suburban stops than to the Old Town, stay on past Kraków Główny and cut out a tram ride entirely.

The main complaint from visitors is confusion: you might see SKA1, SKA2 and REGIO all on the board and none labelled simply “airport train.” Some also miss trains while checking line numbers. The simple filter is the station name: for arrivals, you want anything that stops at “Kraków Główny”; for departures back to Terminal 1, you want “Kraków Lotnisko/Airport.”

How to ride SKA2 from KRK in 6 steps

  • 1. From Terminal 1 arrivals, follow the “Train/PKP” signs for about 5 minutes to Kraków Lotnisko station.
  • 2. Check the electronic board and locate the next departure showing “Kraków Główny” and line code SKA2 (or SKA1 if you just need the city centre).
  • 3. Use the platform ticket machine to buy a single ticket to either “Kraków Główny” or your SKA2 suburban stop; budget around $2.
  • 4. Validate the ticket if required by local signage, then board the train when it arrives, usually within a 30–60 minute window between services.
  • 5. Ride 18–20 minutes to Kraków Główny if you are connecting to trams and long-distance trains, or stay on SKA2 for additional northern/eastern stops that match your accommodation.
  • 6. For the return to KRK, at any SKA2 stop look for trains bound for “Kraków Lotnisko/Airport” and repeat the same ticket routine.

One last tip: screenshot the SKA2 timetable for your arrival day before you fly, so a delayed landing does not leave you guessing whether the next airport train is 10 or 50 minutes away.
